Trip Itinerary
Day 1
San Francisco Arrival
Arrive at San Francisco International Airport, pick up your car and proceed into the City by the Bay, beautiful San Francisco.
Day 2
San Francisco
Enjoy a wonderful day touring the city. See places like Union Square, Golden Gate Bridge, and Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can take a short boat trip to tour infamous Alcatraz Island.
Day 3
San Francisco – Mendocino / driving distance: 170 mi / 280 km
Follow the coastline of California north to the village of Mendocino. The entire town is a Historic Preservation District on the National Register of Historic Places with a superb coastal setting.
Day 4
Mendocino – Redwood National Park / driving distance: 230 mi / 380 km
Pass former Russian fishing settlements as you drive north today. The giant redwoods are protected in state and national parks.
Day 5
Redwood National Park – Oregon Dunes – Portland / driving distance: 350 mi / 560 km
The dramatic, desolate coastline of Oregon has created panoramic vistas and picturesque images for you to enjoy today. The peaceful drive through ever-changing terrain will take you through small towns which reflect the essence of Oregon and the American Spirit.
Day 6
Portland – Mt. St. Helens – Mt. Rainier National Park – Seattle / driving distance: 269 mi / 430 km
Cross the Columbia River and enter the Evergreen State of Washington. A stop at Mt. St. Helens will reveal the devastation of the 1980 eruption of this active volcano. Then continue to Mt. Rainier National Park, one of the outstanding scenic wonders of the Northwest. Arrive in Seattle in the evening.
Day 7
Seattle
A full day at leisure to explore Seattle. We suggest a visit to the Boeing factory in nearby Everett or simply enjoy the Space Needle and downtown’s shopping and dining.
Day 8
Seattle – Vancouver / driving distance: 140 mi / 224 km
Today discover some of the Emerald City’s many attractions. Then drive north to Vancouver, Canada’s spectacular western gateway. Enjoy this stunning picturesque city in the afternoon.
Day 9
Vancouver
A full day at leisure. We suggest a tour by ferry to the quaint provincial capital of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Visit famed Butchart Gardens and return to Vancouver in early evening.
Day 10
Vancouver – Kamloops / driving distance: 268 mi / 428 km
Leave Canada’s spectacular western gateway and follow the dramatic course of the Fraser and Thompson Rivers, the road clinging to sheer canyon walls with turbulent waters rushing below. Reach the rugged interior town of Kamloops late afternoon.
Day 11
Kamloops – Jasper National Park / driving distance: 280 mi / 450 km
Drive into the heart of the US Rockies on the Yellowhead Highway to Jasper National Park. The park is a wildlife sanctuary full of majestic mountains and crystal lakes.
Day 12
Jasper National Park – Banff National Park / driving distance: 180 mi / 290 km
The Icefields Parkway runs along the ridge of the Rockies. See the Columbia Icefield, the largest body of ice south of the Arctic Circle.
Day 13
Banff National Park – Kootenay National Park – Kalispell / driving distance: 297 mi / 475 km
Drive through Kootenay National Park, then head south along the Columbia River to Kalispell.
Day 14

Day 17
Yellowstone National Park – Grand Teton National Park – Jackson / driving distance: 120 mi / 200 km
See the peaks of the Grand Teton Mountains as you drive to the rustic town of Jackson Hole.
Day 18
Jackson – Salt Lake City / driving distance: 270 mi / 440 km
Pass through the pasture lands and small towns of western Wyoming on your way to the Mormon State of Utah.
Day 19
Salt Lake City – Bonneville – Salt Flats – Elko / driving distance: 230 mi / 370 km
Cross the desolate Great Basin and the salt flats of prehistoric Lake Bonneville en route to the isolated community of Elko.
Day 20
Elko – Reno – Lake Tahoe / driving distance: 350 mi / 560 km
Cross the state of Nevadaen route to Reno. Climb the Sierra Nevada mountains to beautiful Lake Tahoe. Of glacial origin, it delivers seventy-two miles of stunning shoreline views.
Day 21
Lake Tahoe – Sacramento – Wine Country – San Francisco / driving distance: 270 mi / 440 km
Visit the state capital, Sacramento, which was once the Gold Rush Terminus of the Central Pacific Railroad and the Pony Express. In the afternoon, explore the Wine Country on your way to San Francisco.
