Wild West, Cowboys and Buffalos
ARRIVE SALT LAKE CITY
Welcome to Salt Lake City. Arrive at your hotel and enjoy some time on your own this afternoon to relax or venture out to see some of the main attractions. This evening, meet your fellow adventurers at 6 p.m. for a Kick-off Party with your Travel Director.
SALT LAKE CITY - MONTPELIER - JACKSON
Put on your cowboy hats, pull up your boots and get ready to create memories that will last a lifetime. Head north and enter Wyoming for your first encounter with the mighty Rocky Mountains. Follow trails blazed by rugged mountain men centuries ago. Stop at the Oregon Trail Center in Montpelier to get a glimpse into the thrills and challenges of the Old Trail. Enjoy lunch in a covered wagon before crossing the famous Oregon Trail to the authentic Old West town of Jackson. Walk through the town's famous landmark arch of tangled elk antlers and step back in time as you explore the Town Square with its Western boardwalks, craft boutiques and ice cream shops-all surrounded by the majestic Rockies. This evening, take a wagon ride out to the river for a rib-stickin' Chuckwagon Regional Meal.
JACKSON - GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK - 320 GUEST RANCH
Rise early if you'd like to rollick down the Snake River on a scenic optional wilderness float trip (seasonal). Later, discover dramatic Grand Teton National Park. Travel onward to Montana's Big Sky Country and settle in for big fun at an 1898 homestead where you'll feast on a classic Western dinner.
320 GUEST RANCH - YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Giddy up cowboys and cowgirls. There are many fun choices on the ranch this morning: join a whitewater rafting trip down the Gallatin River or saddle up and ride with a real-life horse wrangler in the Montana wilderness. After lunch at the ranch, visit The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone before entering one of America's most famous National Parks, Yellowstone. Stay inside Yellowstone National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where each lodge has its own unique setting and atmosphere. Lodges featured are the Old Faithful Inn, Old Faithful Snow Lodge, Grant Village, and the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. Specific lodges will be confirmed in your documents.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK SIGHTSEEING
Discover Yellowstone's most amazing natural wonders, including the thundering Yellowstone Falls, a multitude of gushing geysers and countless brilliantly coloured hot springs, bubbling mud pools and hissing steam vents, highlighted with a visit to Old Faithful, which has been spouting steam water regularly for thousands of years. Do you know how to locate a bear or tell what it's been eating? Enjoy a stroll around the boardwalks of Yellowstone and learn the answer, plus even more cool facts about the park's abundance of wildlife.
YELLOWSTONE - CODY - SHERIDAN
This morning, say farewell to majestic Yellowstone. Head east to the town of Cody, named for its most famous native son, Buffalo Bill. Get a glimpse into the fascinating history of the American West at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West where you'll experience the culture of the cowboy, the role of the firearm in the early days and the culture and art of the Plains Indians. Then it's on to Sheridan to check in to your hotel.
SHERIDAN - KEYSTONE - RAPID CITY
After a hearty breakfast, your journey continues on to South Dakota. Visit Crazy Horse Memorial where you'll gaze in awe at the towering tribute to legendary Lakota leader Crazy Horse being carved into the mountain and discover the culture of his people. The evening is yours to explore in Rapid City. Or perhaps take an optional trip to the moving Mount Rushmore Lighting Ceremony, a chance to see one of America's most famous landmarks from a different perspective.
BLACK HILLS EXCURSION
The first stop this morning is Bear Country USA, a wildlife park featuring the world's largest private viewing habitat of American black bear. Enjoy a drive through this spectacular and unique park and walk through the Wildlife Center, where younger and smaller animals frolic in their outdoor exhibits. Next, head for the famous Black Hills of South Dakota to view one of America's most iconic landmarks: the presidents sculpted at Mount Rushmore. You have seen the pictures of Mount Rushmore, but they pale in comparison to seeing this majestic site in person. It took 400 artisans 14 years to carve the sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln into the mountain. This evening, join your fellow adventurers at a Farewell Dinner featuring a local Native American dancer, a true Cultural Insight.
DEPART RAPID CITY OR DENVER
Your Wild West adventure comes to an end after breakfast. Say so long to your newfound friends this morning and traverse some of the heavily forested Black Hills and the expansive grasslands of Wyoming on your way to Denver, the Mile High City, where you may extend your stay, or transfer to Denver International Airport for your flight home.
