Tour-USA.com can arrange self drive holidays throughout the USA and Canada.
With more than 4 million miles of highway, the USA offers more road trips than anyone could tackle in one lifetime. Whether you are into Wild West history or nature’s vistas, you will find them along America’s back roads and byways.
Are you ready to plan your road trip? Just remember: the USA covers a continent and more. Texas alone is twice the size of Germany, so you may need to adjust your sense of scale. It’s easy to get overambitious, blow your budget and spend more time getting to sights than actually seeing them. Our best advice? Plan what you want to see in the time that you think you will have, then take out half the stops.
Reservations are essential during peak travel seasons, especially during spring and summer and around major holidays.
Just to give you an idea, here are some of the USA legendary drives: Route 66 - it’s the U.S. Mother Road, stretching from Chicago to L.A. Pacific Coast Highway - curve along the ocean on California’s Hwys 1 and 101, past SoCal’s celebrity enclaves and golden beaches, over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and north into misty coast redwood forests. Blue Ridge Parkway - cruise the Appalachian Mountains on this historic route, with its rustic wooden cabin hideaways and bluegrass-music joints, while soaking up glorious sunsets. Florida’s Highway 1 - fly along breathtaking bridges and causeways across Florida Keys, an archipelago that feels as close to Cuba as it dopes to Miami. Great River Road - wind alongside the mighty Mississippi, stopping off at 19th-century-author Mark Twain’s hometown of Hannibal, St Louis’ Gateway Arch and Missouri’s pastoral French-colonial countryside. Columbia River Highway - Oregon’s most scenic byway was the first route in the USA to become a National Historic Landmark. Travel in spring, when waterfalls and wildflowers spread along the dramatic Columbia River Gorge. Natchez Trace Parkway - after kicking up your heels in country-and-western Nashville, drive into the Deep South and enter Alabama and Mississippi, with their swampy marches and old-fashioned roadhouses dishing up good barbecue, biscuits and beer. US Highway 50 - running through Nevada, the so-called Loneliest Road in America is a winner if you are seeking solitude amid arid deserts, skyscraping peaks, Basque-flavoured cowboy country and Old West mining ghost towns.
